Note: Due to COVID19 restrictions, our staff is working remotely. Our Halifax, NS office has recently reopened under stringent physical distancing guidelines. Pending the global health crisis, remote work will be considered for this position with the ideal candidate residing in close proximity to any of our offices to allow for scheduled office visits and in-person meetings.

Job Summary

REIN.ai is looking for a Chief Technology Officer to propel our success to the next level.  REIN has built a flexible platform connecting the needs of brands with insurance carrier capacity to provide a first-class user experience for self-service insurance needs. With REIN’s configurable platform, global brands, such as Volvo Financial Services, can incrementally layer in insurance tools to give their customers access to the coverage they need, where and when they need it.

To date, REIN has launched two platform-based insurance programs: a connected insurance program in commercial trucking and an on-demand insurance program for drones.  Subsequent products are being developed and launched in autonomous vehicles, commercial trucking and other verticals.

Our platform is built with a service-oriented architecture in mind and we are constantly looking to improve our infrastructure and expand the capabilities of our platform. We are particularly interested in engineering leaders with a vision that can impact all areas of the business, from our corporate partners and board of directors, to our junior developers.

 

As a candidate for this role you can balance technical expertise and understand business requirements to define the technical direction of the company. You have bold ideas and push to ensure they are implemented in a highly regulated environment. You can identify bottlenecks and work across the organization to break down silos and improve internal, and external, understanding of our technology. This is an amazing opportunity to lead a talented team of engineers and help REIN scale not only its technology stack but also our partnerships. 

 

 

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Working with the engineering team and executive team, set the technical direction of the company

  • Direct development of client projects with a repeatable and scalable architecture

  • Ensure compliance and security best practices are at the forefront of development

  • Lead data science initiatives to derive useful insights from large, unstructured datasets

Management

  • Scale and mentor engineering and data teams

  • Attract best in class talent as we grow our team and help develop current team

  • Organize and anchor the team by understanding the demands and expectations of a start-up environment undergoing rapid growth

  • Identify bottlenecks and driving efficiencies with an agile team

Client and Investor Management

  • Work with business partner companies on setting and understanding expectations on technology integrations

  • Understand our technology platform and how we scale partnerships with current and potential clients

  • As part of REIN’s executive team, participate in and contribute to presentations to potential investors and subsequent technical diligence for REIN’s upcoming financing round

Qualifications and skills

 

  • Demonstrated experience managing an engineering team with a strong preference for previous start-up experience, managing and mentoring in a remote environment

  • Direct experience leading major technology stack and architecture decisions, including building scalable infrastructure that anticipates future needs

  • Strong cross discipline communications with other departments such as sales and business development

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to communicate a technology vision and work with external corporate clients and partners

  • Previous experience with the following preferred:

    • Experience with ISO-27001 certification

    • Experience in a highly regulated environment

    • Experience with working in a B2B platform environment
